Higgins Employee Exchange Program in Action!

Two Higgins painters take off for the opportunity of a lifetime!

At Higgins, investing in our people goes far beyond training and job site. It’s about creating real opportunities that inspire growth, leadership, and build lasting careers.

Last week, Sunshine Coast painters Rowan Dawson and Jack Wroblewski boarded a flight to Germany to take part in our exclusive Employee Exchange Program with Heinrich Schmid - the world’s largest commercial painting company.

Over the next three months, they’ll be based at the Kaiserslautern branch, set in Germany’s stunning southern wine region. There, they’ll work across live projects, experience different painting methods and building systems.

We caught up with Jack and Rowan just before takeoff

💬What made you want to apply for the exchange?

Jack: I was doing a small job for my business development manager when I received an email about this opportunity and immediately called our HR manager to ask how I can apply.

💬How did you feel when you found out you had been accepted?

Rowan: I was beyond nervous waiting to hear back after my interview. I couldn’t believe this was really happening, when I got accepted.

💬What have you done to prepare yourself for the exchange program?

Jack: The day after I applied, I started learning German through audiobooks.

💬Are there any work techniques or disciplines you're excited to learn and develop in your time with Heinrich Schmid?

Jack: I have been told our German counterpart painters do a lot more of other aspects to building management such as rendering, plastering and decorative finishes that I would love to bring back to Higgins.

We are proud of Jack and Rowan and can’t wait to follow their journey. Keep an eye out for updates over the next few months as they represent Higgins abroad!
