Higgins Cooks for a Cause with OzHarvest

We have continued our partnership with Australia’s leading food-rescue organisation OzHarvest by participating in their Cooking for a Cause classes in Melbourne and Adelaide. Cooking for a Cause teaches participants zero-waste cooking skills to transform rescued ingredients into gourmet meals which support vulnerable communities.

Our Melbourne team assisted OzHarvest with the internal and external repainting at their Port Melbourne facility, which features their state-of-the-art commercial kitchen that hosts these cooking classes.

So it felt right to send a team from our Head Office to participate in the cooking event. We were joined by a couple of our friends from Dulux who were similarly eager to learn about zero-waste cooking.

Senior Marketing Specialist Samantha McHugh commended OzHarvest for the event, "The session was fun and insightful, and we observed first-hand the impact OzHarvest is having on our community."

"We transformed ingredients that otherwise would have headed to landfill, into 94 tasty meals that were delivered to people in need across Melbourne."

On the back of this rewarding day, Our Adelaide team decided to up the ante and take some long-time customers to a Cooking for a Cause class at their Adelaide Oval.

The day was a resounding success, with our team and customers from Whittles and Adelaide Strata and Community Management (ASCM) thoroughly enjoying it. The Adelaide Oval outing resulted in:

  • 🍽️ 120 meals delivered to some of our local charities
  • 🍎 60 kg of food saved from going to landfill
  • 🟩 150kg of CO2 stopped, which reduces global warming

Another group of our Adelaide customers will get the chance to cook for a cause next month, and our Sydney team aims to participate in a class before the New Year.
