Things have changed at OzHarvest since our last visit to their Melbourne office. The Yellow Army has recently installed a new kitchen at their Port Melbourne warehouse which will host OzHarvest’s Cooking for a Cause program.
The unique team-building program teaches participants useful cooking skills as they prepare delicious and nutritious restaurant-quality meals to deliver to local charities.
Given OzHarvest’s work in the community, it was only fitting that their new kitchen reflects the positive impact that they bring to people in need and Higgins Coatings was all too happy to lend a hand.
Higgins’ team of experienced painters Scott Bahler and Matthew Brooking arrived on site and got to work prepping the walls and applying the organisation’s signature yellow to the space. Higgins' paint partner, Dulux, supplied the materials needed for the job ensuring that the kitchen would look great for years to come.
Higgins’ National Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality Manager, Ben Cook, was also onsite to see the finished kitchen in action. “It’s important to support meaningful organisations like OzHarvest. In the last six months there’s been a 60% increase in demand for food through charities that OzHarvest supports, 30% of which are making first-time requests to access food.
“Higgins supports organisations like OzHarvest because we care about the community. The difference that they make not only to those in need but also by using sustainable practices to do so is incredible. There’s no finish line when it comes to sustainability, we need to keep learning and evolving to get better. We can learn a lot from organisations like OzHarvest” said Ben Cook.

“Thanks to Higgins for bringing our branding to life in our amazing new kitchen. A splash of yellow provides a warm welcome and vibrant backdrop as teams enjoy transforming rescued ingredients into gourmet meals while they Cook For a cause!” said OzHarvest’s Vic & SA Engagement Manager, Alana Roberts. “We believe all people should have access to good quality food, and are grateful that we’re able to continue delivering additional meals to people in need.”
