Higgins Coatings - O’Brien Glass Brendale
Project Overview
Higgins was engaged to deliver a full internal and external repaint of a vacated facility in Brendale, north of Brisbane, in preparation for its new tenant, O’Brien Auto Glass. The project involved a complete colour transformation, changing the existing orange finish to O’Brien’s signature blue to align the site with the company’s corporate branding.
The scope of works required specialised access solutions, including abseil painters, with Elevated Work Platforms (EWPs) used on remaining elevations to ensure safe and efficient completion. Delivered over approximately two weeks, the project left the Brendale centre refreshed and ready for O’Brien to commence servicing customers’ windscreen repair needs.
Challenges and Solutions
The Brendale site presented several key challenges.
-
The building operated as an active service station and retail site, with constant vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
-
Works needed to be completed around a busy car park and live operations, requiring strict safety controls and staging.
-
The existing colour scheme was a strong orange, making coverage and colour transition more complex.
-
Multiple areas required working at heights, including steel awnings and external façades.
-
The biggest constraint was time as O’Brien required the entire refurbishment to be completed within just three weeks, without disrupting daily operations.
Our Solution
Our national team delivered a tailored project plan that combined specialist access methods and efficient scheduling. To minimise disruption, we:
-
Utilised abseil painters and EWPs to safely access elevated areas while keeping ground operations clear.
-
Implemented staged work programs, allowing the service station and retail areas to remain operational throughout the project.
-
Applied industrial epoxy coatings to warehouse floors and steel awnings, ensuring long-term durability in tough environments.
-
Managed the full colour transition using premium coating systems to achieve a consistent, high-quality finish across all surfaces.
Results and Impact
The Brendale site underwent a complete transformation, delivering:
- A full external and internal colour change, replacing the previous orange scheme with a modern, professional finish.
- Refreshed, durable epoxy warehouse flooring, improving both aesthetics and functionality.
- Recoated steel awnings, extending asset life and enhancing visual impact.
- A polished, high-end presentation that now serves as a flagship O’Brien Glass store in Queensland.
Despite the complexity of the site and the tight timeframe, our team successfully delivered the entire refurbishment on schedule within three weeks.
