Higgins Coatings - Blacktown International Sports Park Revitalisation
Project Overview
Higgins Coatings partnered with Blacktown City Council and Softball NSW to deliver repaint and revitalisation works across key venues within Blacktown International Sports Park in Rooty Hill.
This project covered both the Baseball Stadium and the Softball Centre, forming part of the council’s ongoing strategy to maintain high-quality sporting infrastructure for elite competition, community use and major events.
Our team was engaged due to our experience delivering comprehensive repaint services across large public sporting facilities, where durability, visual presentation and operational continuity are critical.
Scope of Works: Across the Precinct
Baseball Stadium
-
Full repaint of steel structures and internal painted surfaces
-
Restoration of previously poorly coated concrete substrates
-
Colour-matching of bare concrete to achieve consistent finish
-
Application of protective coatings to improve durability
-
Surface preparation across both steel and concrete elements
Softball Centre
-
Revitalisation of steel structures in existing colours
-
Full internal repaint works
- Application of Dulux coating specification
-
Access via Elevated Work Platforms
Specialist Delivery Approach
Across both venues, our Sydney team implemented:
- Detailed surface preparation for steel and concrete
- High-access works using large EWPs
- Colour consistency strategies to maintain stadium identity
- Coating systems designed for outdoor sporting environments
- Scheduling to minimise disruption to events and operations
This approach ensured the precinct maintained a professional appearance while extending the lifespan of key structural assets.
Challenges and Solutions
Inconsistent and poorly coated concrete at baseball stadium: Several concrete sections across the stadium featured an older baby‑blue coating that no longer aligned with the venue’s refreshed aesthetic. Drawing on our technical expertise, we implemented a bespoke colour‑matching repaint strategy that revitalised the stadium’s presentation with a modern, unified finish. By avoiding the need for full substrate stripping, we delivered an impressive visual upgrade while ensuring exceptional cost efficiency for the council.
Accessing elevated stadium structures safely: Both venues included high steelwork and difficult-to-reach areas. Large EWPs were deployed to provide safe access while maintaining productivity and finish quality across all surfaces.
Weather constraints during softball works: Wet weather created interruptions to our schedule. Works were staged carefully over the Christmas shutdown period, allowing the team to maintain progress and complete the project within a suitable timeframe.
Results and Impact
This project delivered both visual improvements and long-term building protection outcomes.
-
Enhanced visual presentation: Both venues now present a cohesive, professional appearance suitable for community sport, tournaments and events.
-
Improved asset protection: Protective coating systems help prevent corrosion, extend structural lifespan and reduce long-term maintenance costs.
-
Cost-effective delivery: Strategic colour matching avoided unnecessary substrate stripping while still achieving a high-quality finish.
- Operational continuity: Works were scheduled to minimise disruption to facility use and seasonal events.
This project highlights Higgins’ capability in maintaining public sporting infrastructure to professional standards while balancing budget, safety and planning.
