In one of our previous blogs on property maintenance and health & safety, we unpacked a number of the pros related to using a national supplier to see to your building portfolio’s maintenance needs.
The list of benefits included:
- Saving money: By bulk-buying products from a well-established national supplier that generally trades at reduced and standardised costs.
- Ensuring consistency and quality in products: Through using a reputable company with a nationwide footprint.
- Reducing your administrative load: By using a nationwide supplier that can service your properties from their regional branches.
But how do you go about choosing a national supplier that won’t leave you high and dry?
Knowing the benefits of using a national supplier, your next challenge will be to select the best contractor for the job. But how do you do that? We have put together a few questions for consideration to help you with your selection.Has the national supplier made a transparent commitment to recognised health, safety and quality standards?
Is the company explicit about their minimum mandatory performance requirements? You will want to ensure that the national supplier has received ISO accreditation. ISO is the International Organisation for Standardisation and is responsible for developing and publishing standards and tools that guide companies and organisations in the quality of work they do. ISO accreditation can relate to quality management, risk management, occupational health & safety and the like. How trained are the national supplier’s workers? Do they have the relevant skills and qualifications for the work they do and are they provided with the right equipment to perform their daily tasks?
There needs to be the appropriate risk mitigation processes established at each site. A national supplier that does not respect the occupational health and safety of its workers is unlikely to be overly concerned with ensuring the appropriate risk management processes are in place when working on your property and premises. And suppliers who don’t provide their workers with the necessary tools to get their work done definitely aren’t that interested in work quality assurance.Does the service provider have a sound reputation?
“You can't build a reputation on what you are going to do,” said Henry Ford. Suppliers who have done good work will come with good recommendations, so be sure to ask around to find out which suppliers come with great endorsements and which ones should definitely be scratched from your contact list. It’s best to do your homework to find the right supplier who will save you time and money
The best suppliers will save you both man hours and valuable revenue as they should produce the same standard of work at all locations, which means you shouldn’t ever have to pay to get a job re-done. A single national supplier for all your maintenance and painting needs will ensure consistency in materials used at all locations. You can also plan your maintenance budgets better as costs should be quoted and negotiated upfront.Higgins Coatings will always ensure that our standard of work is consistent at every location to help you save you money in the long run.
