Higgins Coatings believes that the most valuable asset to a company is its employees; as a result, ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of those who work for Higgins is our absolute priority.  One way to achieve this is by encouraging physical activity to be incorporated in to daily life, which in turn promotes happiness, comfort, health benefits (physical and psychological) and a positive working environment.

Many injuries in the painting and construction industry occur due to a lack of physical activity. In many cases physical inactivity causes work limitations and health conditions such as obesity. These health conditions can affect productiveness in the workplace causing absenteeism and an increase likelihood of injury and job duration. However by simply increasing fitness and activity levels you are more likely to prevent these risks and consequently sustain a healthy life, mind and wellbeing.

How much physical activity?

To encourage physical activity, it is important to promote a healthy lifestyle and provide a positive environment. In adults 18-64 years, the recommended amount of physical activity is at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity throughout the week. This can include walking or cycling to and from work, household chores, sports, or planned exercise. For additional health benefits, adults should increase their moderate-intensity physical activity to 300 minutes per week, or equivalent.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has set up recommendations to follow in order to improve cardio respiratory and muscular fitness, bone health, and reduce the risk of non-communicable diseases and depression. For more information on the WHO's recommended physical activity guidelines.
