As a school business manager, it’s important to take pride in your facility. Your school should be a facility that is worthy of admiration. But achieving school pride is not the duty of a single person – everyone from school leaders and parents to teachers and students must work together to guarantee that the entire school community has a sense of reverence and respect for their school as an academic facility and a place of learning. This entails developing and nurturing a positive school culture through activities and events that foster an affinity for it.

When you consider how much time children spend at school and how involved parents become in the school and its activities, it makes perfect sense that parents and students should feel a sense of pride in their school and its facilities.

So why should you as a business manager view your daily activities as a way to promote school pride?

A safe schooling environment is a something everyone should be proud of.

Imagine if your child attended a school that was dirty and rundown. Not only can ill-maintained facilities hinder learning but they also pose various safety concerns. When children attend a school that has all the resources they need and everything neat and tidy, they feel school pride. In this scenario, they’ll be more inclined to tell others about the school they attend and others will want to attend that school too. This sense of school spirit sets the tone for all other school activities.

Proper communication and planning around any interruptions show that the school takes education seriously.

School maintenance, especially preventative maintenance, cannot be avoided, especially if you are running a facility that takes school pride seriously. As a business manager, it’s your job to plan all maintenance activities around a strict schedule. Any possible disruptions to school activities must be properly communicated to anyone who may be affected. You want to run a facility where children have the freedom to learn without interruption and well-planned, and well-executed, maintenance activities are an essential element of this.

Regular maintenance ensures that facilities last longer.

Let’s say you have a leaky pipe in your bathroom. The chances are that you won’t notice any damage for a while. But as time goes by, the longer you leave it, the worse the issue becomes. And if you leave it long enough, you’ll find yourself with a rather large problem that costs a sizable amount to repair. This type of problem could easily be avoided through regular maintenance. When issues are addressed as they arise, you are easily able to maintain the aesthetics of your facility for longer. And in doing so, you’re creating an attractive school that everyone can be proud of.
